Committees are open to all WTS members. If you are interested in joining a committee or have a comment or suggestion you would like to share, please contact the WTS Board.

WTS Scientific Community Committee

The WTS Scientific Community Committee aims to foster research and collaboration within the field of shiftwork and working time. It combines the previous Scientific Committee with expanded aims to foster career development, strengthen our scientific network, and promote widespread collaboration and distribution of knowledge and opportunities. Its primary goals include:

  • Promoting awareness of research and researchers that intersects shiftwork and working time;
  • Curating a list of topics needing to be explored to advance the field, both in research and implementation;
  • Fostering new research and researchers;
  • Supporting research-to-practice activities; and
  • Identifying international funding opportunities, publication avenues, and student/early career researcher exchanges between institutions and industry.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee works independently and in collaboration with the other committees to share information and opportunities with the WTS membership and mailing list. The main committee tasks include:

  • Working on development, maintenance, and use of the Society’s website, social media accounts, and mailing lists;
  • Managing messages sent through the mailing lists; and
  • Proposing, planning, and executing pages for the website, posts for social media, emails to the mailing lists, and other items to engage and inform the membership.

Webinar Committee

The Webinar Committee will support the ongoing WTS Global Webinar Series to provide opportunities for our members and guests to share and hear about the latest research in between our in-person symposia. In order to coordinate and support the hosting of WTS webinars, the committee tasks include:

  • Identifying webinar themes and presenters;
  • Coordinating with individuals or organizations to host or co-host WTS webinars;
  • Scheduling webinars;
  • Identifying and implementing a webinar registration system;
  • Communication and advertising webinars (in collaboration with other committees); and
  • Chairing the webinars as needed.

Resource Repository Committee

The Resource Repository Committee will work toward compiling relevant resources for WTS members. This may include:

  • Building a list of publicly available datasets, relevant questionnaires and data collection tools, etc.;
  • Coordinating with the Communications Committee to develop and maintain a growing list or database on our website;
  • Reinstating the nomenclature subcommittee to improve communication within the discipline; and
  • Highlighting and maintaining a list of recently published articles and authors germane to our research area.

Membership & Finance Committee

Goals of the Membership & Finance Committee broadly include managing the fiscal responsibility of the Society, acquiring and managing funding to enhance opportunities for early career researchers, and working towards a diverse and active membership. Under leadership by the WTS Treasurer, the Membership & Finance Committee is responsible for:

  • Considering new applications for members;
  • Overseeing WTS finances and reporting them to the Executive Board and General Assembly as needed;
  • Developing and maintaining guidelines for spending and serving the WTS community;
  • Providing all necessary documentation for the wo appointed WTS auditors; and
  • Engaging in fundraising for WTS activities as opportunities arise.

Elections Committee

Per the WTS Bylaws, the Executive Board is to consist of a President, Secretary, Treasurer, and minimum of 6 other elected members. Elected terms are 3 years. For President, Secretary, and Treasurer, direct re-election is possible only once; for Executive Board members, direct re-election is possible twice, with further re-election possible after the Board member has had a period of at least 3 years of regular membership between terms. The Elections Committee responsibilities are:

  • Improving on current formats for nominations and voting, as possible;
  • Making practice recommendations to the Board for election policies and procedures;
  • Working towards wider geographical and domain expertise representations within the Executive Board and continued representation across gender, age, and experience; and
  • Overseeing elections, including organizing, holding, and tabulating future WTS elections.

Honours and Awards Committee

The WTS Honours and Awards Committee serves to provide recognition to outstanding individuals and publications through new and existing processes. The WTS Constitution and Rules include a special member honour, that of designation as a “Fellow” of the Society. It also allows for awarding “Honorary Member” status to non-members of the Society. Committee responsibilities include:

  • Designating “Fellows” and “Honorary Members”;
  • Overseeing the nomination and evaluation process and bestowing “Distinguished Paper” awards;
  • Considering, developing, and proposing to the WTS Board the criteria and procedures for additional special awards, as desired; and
  • Performing necessary tasks to develop and implement application or nomination procedures, evaluation, and awarding of any additional honours.
